Stryve’s Information Security Officer, Paul Delahunty, speaks to RTE1 about the Internet of Things (IoT), the cybersecurity threats it can pose, and the steps people can take to ensure their devices do not fall victim to an attack. He explains how the IoT enables devices to connect together, and its development represents a huge advance in technology. However, Paul warns that security is often an afterthought when it comes to the IoT and that can leave many people vulnerable to attack.
Nevertheless, the steps he recommends are simple and easy to implement, for example, ensuring that you change the default password on your IoT device. Paul also advises people to consider segregating their wifi network which can easily be done with the help of online tutorials.
